1934

Lok Yuk Secondary School (English as the Medium of Instruction) was established by Basel Church Malaysia, Kota Kinbalu at Bukit Bendera (Signal Hill). The first principal was Pastor Lee Wok Syn.

1942

During the Japanese occupation (World War II), most of the classrooms were destroyed and Lok Yuk Seconday School had to be closed.

1947

"The Central Church Council Gereja Basel Malaysia" decided to re-establish three secondary schools each in the districts of Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Kudat.

1948

In September, the work of repairing the existing school building was done by the church.

1949

The school reopened with financial and teaching assistance from the American Lutheran Mission. At the end of 1949, the teacher's room and school block were built by the Basel Malaysia Church, Kota Kinabalu and the American Lutheran Mission.

1953

The number of students has increased and a block of classrooms was built at a cost of RM 22000.00.

1954

On April 22, the opening ceremony of the new block of Lok Yuk High School was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Basel Malaysia Church, Kota Kinabalu. The principal is Mr. Lee Chun Min.

1960

In the early 1960s, Basel Malaysia Church, Kota Kinabalu made plans to add to the school building. Donations for the school building fund were obtained from church members.

1962

Starting this year, the payment of teachers' salaries will be through allocations from the Sabah Education Department.

1963

The principal is Pastor Donald E Nelson.

1964

A plot of land in Teluk Likas with an area of 12.2 acres (current school area) was granted to the school by the government. Plans have been made to move the school from Bukit Bendera to the Likas area. In addition to the donation given by the church, the Sabah government and the American Lutheran Mission provided funds to build a new school building. From 1939 until 1964, this school was a National Type Primary School that used Chinese and English as medium of instruction. In 1964, a transitional class was started with the recruitment of Chinese primary school students. Until 1966, primary and secondary schools were under the same administration and the same headmaster.

1966

The first stage of the School Building Project in Teluk Likas was completed in August 1966 with 9 classrooms, a library, a physics laboratory, a general office and a teacher's room at a cost of RM 310,000. This new building began to be used in the third term of schooling in 1966 ( Block A). Lok Yuk Middle School is hereby transferred from the flag hill to this area. 4th grade class started. Principal : Mr James M Peterson.

1967

The second stage of the school building project started in 1967 with 3 classrooms, a biology laboratory, a chemistry laboratory and a drawing room in (Block B). 5th grade class started. Science and literature stream is offered for form 4 and 5.

Number of Pupils: 340 Number of Classes: 12 and the Principal at that time was Mr. George N Anderson.

1968

The inauguration of the opening of the new school building by Sabah Chief Minister Tun Datu Haji Mustahpa Bin Datu Harun on 1 June 1968. The principal at that time was Pastor Donald E Anderson.

1970

Two basketball courts were built and the road paved. American Lutheran Mission donated a film projector and 60 rolls of film used as teaching aids.

1971

The new principal is Mr. John C Peterson.

1972

The new principle is Mr. John Ng.

1982

Number of Students: 623 People

Number of Classes: 20 Classes

Number of Teachers: 30 People

1984

September 1984 work on enlarging the building block started in (Block B) including a kitchen room, a sewing room, a science laboratory, a library and two classrooms at a cost of RM 235000.00. The Sabah Education Department provided an allocation of RM 80000.00. The Lok Yuk Alumni Association donated RM 25000.00. Other financial resources come from donations to the School Building Fund and the Walkathon Project. The principal at that time was Cik Yap Pak Shun.

1985

In June, the addition of the school building block was completed in the third term of the school year 1985 (August). All classrooms and others are in use.

1986

Home Science classes started in Form 1. Commerce stream in Form 4 also started.

1987

A room has been converted into a Computer Room.

1988

The teacher's room for the morning session and the afternoon session are separated. The teachers of the afternoon session are placed in the block B building. The school receives a senior afternoon assistant appointed by the department, namely Mr. Yusof Lim.

1989

The room between building A and B was enlarged to accommodate temporary Life Skills classes. The Parent and Teacher Association (PIBG) of Lok Yuk Secondary School has been registered.

1990

The 31st Annual Sports Games were held for the first time at the Likas Sports Complex. In that year, the merentas desa event was held for the first time.

1991

Science stream classes for Form 4 have been held again.

1993

Pasar Ria organized by PIBG was held for the first time. Pasar Ria aims to collect donations to buy school buses and association funds.

1992

The names of the levels were changed from the letters of the alphabet to the names of flowers, namely Carnation and Antirrhinum for levels 4 and 5, Anggerik, Rafflesia, Mawar, Dahlia and Cempaka for the transitional class up to the level 3 class.

1993

The pavilion is ready to be built, Malay remedial classes for students who are weak in reading and writing skills for transition classes 1 and 2 are held. The third class of form 4 started and was named Daffodil.

The Lok Yuk run organized by alumni was held to collect donations to finance the construction of the school hall.

1995

Principal Mr Ng Soi Nguwng started serving at SM Lok Yuk.

1996

The school environment began to be brightened up with the construction of parks such as Dataran Lok Yuk. A 4-room building, which is a prayer room, a PBSM room, a multi-purpose room and a counseling room between Block A and Block B has been completed.

1997

The establishment of 24-Chinese Drum as one of the uniformed classes at school. The club has received an invitation to perform outside the school and the construction of the teacher's parking lot is underway.

1998

Lok Yuk hall was inaugurated by Datuk Yong Teck Lee. Mushroom huts were built in the school grounds.

1999

The sports house huts were built for the use of the students. The expansion of the teacher's room was also made to accommodate the growing number of teachers.

2000

SM Lok Yuk became the Champion of the National Sketch Competition for the first time. Block C is a PIBG Lightning Project completed at the end of the year (4 classrooms). The overall champion of the MSSD Kota Kinabalu Athletics Championship defeated the reigning champion for 13 years, SM Tsung Tsin.

2001

SM Lok Yuk defended the title of champion in the sketch competition at the national level. Construction of a Fish Pond in the school area for fun (Taman Rimba Ilmu). SM Lok Yuk has been selected as the School of Hope at the Sabah state level and represents the state at the national level.

2003

Construction of a new store (4 Rooms) and Rafflesia Park.

2004

A new three-story U-shaped building (Block D) is ready to be built.

2008

Lok Yuk Berhad Secondary School Cooperative was established.

2009

Started using the IFF Building (Ian Furgeson Foundation) - 4 floors housing 8 classrooms.

2010

Construction of a new canteen at a cost of RM350000.00 from the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

2011

Organized Pasar Ria to raise funds to buy a school bus.

2012

Holding Pasar Ria for the second time to increase the funds to buy a school bus amounting to RM 300000.

2020

The new principal is Puan Lourdes Mary Batin who replaces Puan Norah Marcus.
